Counselling Training Courses

The Central Counselling and Training Service (CCTS) in Southampton runs training courses teaching a high quality, professional, Christ centred biblical model of counselling. The entry level course, Introduction to Christian Counselling, is "Association of Christian Counsellors (National Open College Network Level 2) Accredited" and is ideal for those who wish to understand a Biblical method of counselling and pastoral care, and to begin to develop their listening skills.

By the end of the course it is hoped that participants will be able to:

  • Define a Christian model of counselling based upon the work of Larry Crabb (exploring the spiritual, rational, volitional, emotional and physical aspects of the person and their issues)
  • Use the skills of attending, active listening, empathy, questioning and summary
  • Discuss the importance of both confidentiality and the particular qualities of an effective counsellor
  • Give a basic definition of relational style
  • Explore their own reactions to the course material and develop general self-awareness

The next course is going to be run over three weekends during May and June (Fri pm, Sat am & pm, Sun pm) of 23rd-25th May, 6th-8th June and 20th-22nd June. The deadline for registering for the course will be Friday 25th April. For more information or to register, contact Jenny Williams on 023 8023 7230 or jennyw@newcommunity.org.uk
