Recovery Course: starts Wed 29th September: Central Baptist Church: Free
The 2nd Recovery Course in Southampton will be starting on the 29th of September 2010. This is a free 16 session Christian programme based on the Twelve Steps programme used by Alcoholics Anonymous. If you or anyone you know has a life blighted by an addiction to drugs, alcohol, pornography, sex, gambling, self-harming, over-eating or some other compulsive behaviour; then this course can help with recovery. Half night of prayer: Central Hall (by back entrance): 10 pm - 2 am
Pat and Iain Anderson run half nights of prayer once a month at Central Hall. These meetings are open to Christians from churches accross Southampton and are a powerful time to pray into what's on God's heart for Southampton, the UK and countries all over the world. Trickster Conference featuring "Too good to be true" the Scambuster musical: Thurs 7th October: Central Baptist: 10 am: Free
Doors will open at 10.00am for a performance of the Scambuster musical, ‘Too Good to be True’ by Solomon Touring Theatre. Based on true stories, ‘Too Good to be True’, tells the story of a group of retired friends who are targeted by con men. The lively and entertaining play demonstrates how to spot scams and how to deal with them. There will also be information stands and experts on hand to help you stay safe from scams and doorstep criminals. Tea and coffee will be provided and some limited transport is available. Julian Meeting: Thurs 7th October: Church of the Ascension, Bitterne Park: 7.45 pm
Have you ever wanted to simply spend time in silence, just receiving from God, but have found it hard to get started or to find the time? Julian Meetings (named after Julian of Norwich, a woman of prayer who lived in the 14th Century) offer the opportunity to practise this vital discipline in a small group, in a way that is mutually encouraging for all. The meetings will last for about an hour and take place on the first Thursday of each month. Do feel free to drop in on a trial basis and see if this is the sort of thing that will be of help to you. Southampton Blitz - 70th Anniversary Commemoration Service: 30th November 2010
Advance notice of a special city-wide service celebrating the rebuilding of the city after the blitz. Please mark the date in your church diary.
The service will take place at St Mary’s Church (which lost its roof on that date in 1940). Seven churches and some 45000 other buildings were destroyed in three days of bombing.
